Manila casino attack to not affect industry
The local gaming regulator’s head said that the attack in Resorts World Manila won’t affect the overall industry.
Philippine.- Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (Pagcor) head Andrea Domingo reported that the shooting situation that happened in Resorts World Manila and its security problems won’t affect the country’s GGR (gross gaming revenue).
“As of now, I don’t see any effect on the gaming industry, from the Mindanao situation as well as that of Resorts World [Manila],” said Domingo according to the Malaya Business news outlet. Travellers International Hotel Group Inc, the company behind the Resorts World Manila, announced that some operations will be suspended until after the probe. The company also confirmed that the second floor of the gaming area has been severely damaged due to some fires started by the problem gambler who killed 37 people. The operator also postponed its annual stockholder meeting that was scheduled for this Friday to a more appropriate date, as The Inquirer said.
Domingo also confirmed that they expect to hit the target of US$1.2 billion this year. “Since January, we are averaging US$101 million a month, so that’s around US$505 million as of May. I think we’ll be able to hit the target of US$1.2 billion and above,” the official added.
