Japan politician demands casino explanation
Akira Nagatsuma, the deputy leader of Japan has opposed to casino development.
Japan.- Japan deputy leader and policy chief of the main opposition Constitutional Democratic Party Akira Nagatsuma has made a speech against casino legislation. The politician is highly renowned for his leading contributions on welfare policy among Japanese lawmakers and well respected among Congressmen.
The Japanese deputy leader revealed his opposition against casinos during this week’s debate within the Budget Committee of the House of Representatives. According to the local press, Nagatsuma argued that “Japan was already the most gambling-addicted country among all advanced nations” and he asked lawmakers how casino development could be beneficial for residents.
After the debate, supporters of gaming legislation are expected to answer Nagatsuma and reveal the plans to approve further bills in order to implement the casino law. Although the casino industry has been legalised in Japan, the market has not been developed yet, as both operators and regulators are waiting for the final approval of the controversial IR Promotion Act.
Without the final approval of the bill that regulates the license process for upcoming casinos in Japan and further operation of the highly-expected gaming industry, companies are not able to introduce their proposals and get the permissions to start the constructions. The Japanese Congress has been delaying the debates related to the issue, which has frozen every determination to develop the market.
