New gambling regulator set to take over in France
L’Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ) will replace ARJEL following its inaugural meeting.
France.- L’Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ) has taken a step closer to replacing the incumbent gambling regulator, Autorité Nationale de regulation des jeux en ligne (ARJEL).
A decree formalising the transition of power came into force on 4 March, with ANJ to officially become the country’s new regulator once it meets for the first time.
The government of France announced the creation of a new gambling authority as part of the privatisation of Française des Jeux (FDJ) last October.
ANJ will act as the sole institution overseeing gambling in the country, including online gambling, casinos, horse racing in Paris and lottery games.
ARJEL had only been responsible for regulating France’s online gambling market.
Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin, who had been serving as State Councillor for France’s National Commission for Data Protections, will head up ANJ.
She will be responsible for overall operations of the ANJ, while the new organisation will continue to publish major regulatory decisions and rulings on its website.
