DraftKings defends state by state regulation
The company believes that each state in the US should set its own regulation for sports betting.
US.- Jason Robins, CEO of DraftKings, considers that a state-by-state regulation in the United States would be better for an efficient sports betting market. A US Senator has recently proposed a federal framework for sports betting, but several parties involved in the industry have manifested their opposition.
During an industry event, the CEO said that there are pros and cons to a federal regulatory framework: “The pro is that, instead of being state by state, with a bunch of rules taking a while to be implemented, it would be done consistently. The con is that, if it’s not done well, everything is not done well as opposed to a few states getting it right and others not. I think state by state is a little safer.”
Last month, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) released a memo in which he said that a federal framework for sports betting will be beneficial for the country. Days after his proposal was revealed, the American Gaming Association (AGA) issued a statement and explained that a federal oversight of sports betting was an “abject failure for 26 years only contributing to a thriving illegal market with no consumer protections and safeguards.”
