Connecticut: House approves sports betting legalisation
The state’s House of Representatives has approved legislation to allow sports betting and online casino gaming in Connecticut. The bill now moves to the Senate, where it is expected to be approved.
US.- Representatives have passed a bill to approve sports betting and online casino gaming in Connecticut and sent it to the Senate for final approval.
The proposal would give the state’s two tribal casinos and the Connecticut Lottery Corp the possibility to operate the segment. It was approved with a 121-22 vote.
Gov. Ned Lamont said after the House vote: “I look forward to this measure’s swift passage in the Senate so we can start the federal process of ensuring this legislation and agreement is authorized.”
The legislation, which now needs to be approved by the state senate, would allow sports betting except for college sports. Residents will only be able to wager on professional sports and the annual NCAA basketball bracket pools that include local schools.
The bill received bipartisan support in the House and passed despite some concerns.
Senator Tony Hwang said: “There are many concerns as it relates to a significant expansion of gambling in the state of Connecticut. I hope we will proceed cautiously and transparently, because unfortunately, in the case of this bill and the pace that it is going, neither is happening.”
