Casino revenue jumps again in Mississippi

For the sixth time in seven months, casino revenue increased in Mississippi during February, this time 2% to US$173 million.

US.- The gaming industry was missing out on the sports betting segment, but after PASPA got revoked, many began taking profit from it. Mississippi casino revenue is proof of its success, as February was the sixth out of seven months with a financial improvement.

Last month, casino revenue went up 2% to US$173 million, yet again thriving on the sports betting vertical. Gaming halls statewide continue to improve, as they raked US$3 million more than February 2018’s US$170 million.

Besides the improved casino revenue in Mississippi, receipts rose to US$74 million at 15 casinos along the river, 1% up year-on-year. Furthermore, the state’s 12 Gulf Coast casinos won US$99 million, improving 2%.

The continued growth

Revenue continues to grow in the state, and over the last few months has continued to strengthen its position.

During the last month of 2018, Mississippi Coast’s 12 casinos had a combined US$106.4 million in gross casino revenue (GCR), which meant a 7.5% increase year-on-year. The figure isn’t only the highest in 26 years, but also just the second time that December GCR topped the US$100 million mark after 2007’s US$103 million.

In 2018 as a whole, statewide revenue increased 1.7% to US$2.1 billion, up approximately US$45 million from 2017. Despite the positive results, last year’s performance wasn’t near historical highs due to the legalisation of sports betting in near states, as well as inflation and increased competition in local casinos.
