The British Columbia Lottery Corporation requires casinos to ask for identification before entry.

Canada.- The British Columbia Lottery Corporation has advanced responsible gaming protocols by implementing new requirements in the Canadian province’s casinos. British Columbia gaming locations are required to ask for identification on entry from today (June 26). The requirement is intended to prevent self-excluded individuals from entering casinos.

Identification will be scanned and checked against the Game Break database. No personal information will be saved.

The province’s Game Break voluntary self-exclusion programme allows players to take a break from gambling, either retail or online via PlayNow, the province’s digital offering, for a defined period of time.

Pat Davis, BCLC’s president and CEO, said: “Since announcing last month that these changes were coming, BCLC has been working to build awareness with our players about the new entry requirements and why they matter in helping us to support individuals who have asked for our help. We believe that BC is the first jurisdiction in North America to require ID at the casino door, an example of BCLC’s continued work towards our ambition of having the healthiest players in the world.”
