Which Macau sports events are going ahead in 2021?
The Macao International 10K, 40th International Marathon, International Dragon Boat Race and World Table Tennis are expected to go ahead.
Macau.- President of the Macau Sports Bureau, Pun Weng Kun, has announced that the bureau has cut the year’s agenda of major sporting events by half as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to impact on fixtures.
Events that are still scheduled to take place include the Macao International 10K, the 40th International Marathon, the International Dragon Boat Race and World Table Tennis.
The Grand Prix has not yet been postponed, but the event depends on the evolution of the global pandemic. Pun is in conversations with the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile about the situation.
Pun added that construction of the Mong Ha Sports Centre is expected to finish in June. The venue should be ready for use by the end of the year.
If all goes to plan, Pun hopes that 70 per cent of the centre could be used by the general public and 30 per cent for community associations and local competitions.
Finally, Pun disclosed that the bureau has lowered standard funding for local sports organisations by 8-10 per cent.
