Police in The Philippines arrested 710 people between December 6 and 12, and 255 were allegedly involved in illegal gambling operations.

The Philippines.- Officers in The Philippines have reported that 710 people were arrested PHP4.5m was seized in a series of raids in central Luzon. According to Manila Times, 209 of the people arrested were subject to long-term arrest warrants and 36 were on the area’s most wanted list.

Police said 182 people were arrested on drugs charges, 255 people for illegal gambling and 28 people for violating special laws. During the raids, police seized drugs and betting money amounting to P65,614.

Police Regional Office-Region 3 director BGen. Mathew Baccay, said: “I commend the operating teams for their continuous commitment to account for and arrest these wanted persons and law violators.”

A week ago, police also arrested 46 people for alleged involvement in illegal gambling activities in Quezon City. According to the chief police officer of the Quezon City Police District, three of the suspects were arrested while participating in illegal online gambling.

Meanwhile, 34 people were arrested for taking part in a “tupada” or illegal cockfighting, seven for playing billiards and two for playing cara y cruz (coin flipping). A few weeks ago, Focus Gaming News reported that police had arrested nine people for alleged involvement in illegal cockfighting betting. According to officers, those arrested were caught with P1,800 in bet money.
