Bangkok would be ideal location for casino resort, analysts say
If the government of Thailand allows gambling, Bangkok could be a prime location for a casino resort.
Thailand.- Industry consultant Michael Zhu of Innovation Group has told GGRAsia that Bangkok could be a potential prime location for casino resorts if the government legalises gambling. The Thai House of Representatives voted on Thursday to establish a 60-member “special committee” to study the proposal with the aim of attracting foreign tourists.
The committee will reportedly include 15 representatives from the Thai cabinet and 45 members from various political parties across the country. It’s expected to complete its research within 90 days.
Zhu said: “Bangkok has better infrastructure and connectivity than any other city in Thailand, enabling it to accommodate more tourists and other business volumes that would come with the establishment of an IR.”
Brendan Bussmann of Global Market Advisors (GMA) LLC also mentioned Bangkok as a possible location, along with the seaside town of Pattaya near the Thai capital and the popular island of Phuket. He added that Thailand should consider doing something similar to Japan in order to push tourism to other parts of the country instead of building integrated resorts in places that already have a high flow of tourists.
