Arkansas group seeks to strike initiative

The group is seeking to disqualify a ballot that would legalise four casinos in the state.

US.- Arkansas casino supporters have been trying to include a measure that would legalise four facilities in the state for quite some time, and last week they actually achieved their goal and received the news that their initiative would be included in the November ballot.

Now, Ensuring Arkansas’ Future is asking the highest court from the state to disqualify the initiative as they claim that the proposal’s wording is ambiguous and misleading. The group in favour of the ballot, Driving Arkansas Forward, had to fight several times in order to get the approval of the ballot’s wording.

Ensuring Arkansas’ Future is a group formed to fight against the pro-casino measure. The referendum will include authorisation to develop one new casino in each of Jefferson and Pope counties. It would also allow slots-only casinos at the Oaklawn and Southland racetracks to add live table games and sports betting.

“We believe the attorney general was diligent and correct in reviewing this ballot title, and we have no doubt that it will withstand this legal challenge,” Nate Steel, the group’s counsel, said in a statement.
