Greece receives two bids for Elliniko casino
The gambling commission from Greece has confirmed that it received two bids for a licence to operate the Elliniko casino.
Greece.- A new casino is soon to be built in the old Athens airport, and the gaming commission from Greece is ready to move forward with the preparations. The commission said that it received two bids for the licence to build and operate the casino resort in Elliniko. The commission is likely to announce the winner of the bid by late November.
The two companies that submitted the bids were Hard Rock International and Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment in a joint effort with Greek contractor GEK Terna. The deadline to bid for the construction and 30-year operation of the casino expired that same day.
The company that wins the tender will be in charge of building a casino of at least 1.2 hectares, 120 gaming tables and 1200 slots. The facility will also have a hotel, a conference centre and a sports centre.
The casino will be part of an €8 billion complex placed at the old Athens airport. It will attract hundreds of thousands of tourist every year. It is also expected to boost the local economy after years of debt crisis.
If it wins, Hard Rock International said that it will spend more than €1 billion on the project.
