Rivers Casino undertakes mass lay-offs

Company confirms it will furlough 1,442 of the casino’s 1,493 workers due to the Coronavirus crisis.

US.- The Rivers Casino Des Plaines has confirmed it will furlough that vast majority of its workforce, with a total of 1,442 of the casino’s 1,493 workers being laid off.

It is understood that employees retained for business continuity purposes will take substantial salary cuts.

“This was an extremely difficult decision and one we desperately hoped to avoid,” said Greg Carlin, CEO of Rivers Casino.

The Des Plaines casino closed on March 15, when the Governor announced that all non-essential businesses had to close their doors.

According to the Daily Herald, Rivers Casino continued to pay its employees during the time it was closed.

The furloughs are expected to last through June 30, during which time the casino will pay 100% of the employees’ health benefits.
