PokerStars to launch in Portugal
The online poker room is set to launch its service in the European country.
Portugal.- PokerStars announced that they will launch its online poker service in Portugal in the next few days. The operation will be launched with a segregated liquidity pool that could take different forms.
According to Poker Industry PRO, the segregated liquidity depends on regional regulations, but it means that local players can’t participate in online cash games and tournaments.
Portugal recently introduced and implemented a new iGaming regulatory framework, and even though online poker hasn’t been strongly regulated, the local gambling regulator Serviços de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SRIJ) recommended to segregate the local market in a similar way to other bigger countries such as France, Italy and Spain.
Back in June, the SRIJ announced that they would not give online poker licenses before November because they wanted to study and establish the kind of market that they wanted to offer to local players.
