Online lottery operators didn’t accomplish its target

Illinois lottery grants IOU’s to winning players after a battle between Republican and Democrats representatives for the budget.

US.- Exactly four years ago, Illinois lottery broke the record of being the first US state that operated online. This meant that players could buy the tickets via its website due to an agreement with the state’s government until next March 25. Nevertheless, legislators haven’t approved the new license yet.

Now, the state lottery must face the imminent end of its online operations, leaving the recognition to Michigan and Georgia lotteries. Both states admitted a constant growing on these ways of operations. On the contrary, Illinois lottery is waiting for a twist and a further extension of the 2012 legislator’s approval. The state demonstrated that sales are good –US$68 million gathered since its approval– and the 24 percent of them goes to education and constructional projects.

The last online sales, or at least its discussion, will end this month as the legislators will come back to work in April during the new beginning of the legislative session. An urgent meeting of the House Finance Committee was going to be carried out on Thursday 10th, but they decided to cancel it with no date set for the next one.
