Norway expands online bingo

In order to mitigate the impact of the Coronavirus, Norway has decided to authorise further online bingo options to operate in the country.

Norway.- Norway will have its own online bingo offering after the local regulator decided to allow that type of game. The country’s rules require a physical draw to take place, but the Coronavirus’ crisis demands desperate measures.

Until now, the only way to play online bingo was to do so with an operator with a land-based bingo hall. Nonetheless, companies asked the Lotteri-og stiftelsestilsynet (Lottstift) to make an exception giving the global crisis.

Bingo halls closed down on March 12 to prevent the virus from further spreading. However, the financial impact would be too big if they were to stop operating, which is why online bingo draws will be allowed in Norway. That will last, at least, until March 29, but the regulator will assess whether to extend that period.
