North Carolina opens new gambling addiction centres
The Center of Excellence for Gambling Addiction Policy and Practice and Professional Development Center are led by the Addiction Professionals of North Carolina.
US.- North Carolina has opened two new centres designed to support responsible gaming and address gambling addiction. The two new facilities will provide training, resources and professional opportunities for the behavioral health workforce.
The Center of Excellence for Gambling Addiction Policy and Practice (CEGAPP) and the Professional Development Center (PDC) are led by the Addiction Professionals of North Carolina (APNC) and funded by the state’s Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Use Services.
CEGAPP will equip providers with skills to promote responsible gambling and mitigate addiction risks. Meanwhile, the PDC will offer leadership and communication training and will connect experienced leaders with emerging professionals.
Last year, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ (NCDHHS) Problem Gambling Program, Eastern Carolina University’s (ECU) Gambling Research and Policy Initiative (GRPI) and Birches Health partnered to offer gambling disorder resources and treatment options to state players.
Sports betting became legal in the state in March 2024.
