Monmouth Park reports results of first NFL week

The New Jersey racetrack reported its first week of NFL operations at its William Hill sportsbook.

UK.- Last weekend marked the first of the new National Football League (NFL) season, and now that sports betting is a legal activity in New Jersey, authorised facilities are enjoying an increasing flow of new clients.

Monmouth Park, one of the racetracks that offer sports betting services in the state, reported that more than 400 people filled the venue in less than an hour. A William Hill supervisor said: “I’ll put it to you this way, we opened the doors at 8 and it didn’t slow down until 2. We have been preparing for this, though. Baseball was good, but football was going to the big hit for us. The turnout was very exciting. There’s a learning curve but we were able to get through it smoothly.”

Earlier this year, the racetrack sued US sports leagues for more than US$150 million for taking part in blocking the possibility to allow sports betting in the state in the last four years. The owner of the racetrack, the New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association Inc, believes that the revenue was lost because it was wrongfully blocked by the sports leagues since 2014. It is now targeting the NCAA and professional leagues including the NBA, NFL and MLB.
