MGM makes a move in Japan through the MLB
MGM Resorts International will sponsor US baseball’s opening event, which will be held in Tokyo next month.
Japan.- As casino companies continue to fight to get the better spot ahead of casino arrival in Japan, MGM Resorts International has taken another step forward. The company will have its brand exposed in Tokyo next March as it will sponsor the Major League Baseball (MLB) Opening Series in the Japanese capital city.
The casino giant will host fan-facing events outside of the ballpark and will have its logo seen by millions as it will be placed on the player’s jerseys right sleeve.
“We are very excited to partner with MLB and the MLBPA, to deliver a one-of-a-kind fan experience that celebrates baseball in Japan,” Jim Murren, MGM Resorts chairman and CEO, said. “We look forward to giving fans a unique experience to participate in baseball activities in and out of the Tokyo Dome.”
“We just recently opened up an office in Osaka. We’ve committed now to the mayor and to the governor of Osaka,” Murren had also told financial analysts earlier this month and added: “MGM has adopted an Osaka-first strategy. We are focusing our considerable resources on Osaka.”
Though casino locations have yet to be decided, Osaka is the top candidate to host a gaming venue once all regulations have been laid out. That’s why MGM Resorts International has decided to set potential development in the city as a key target for their business.
