Japanese PM calls for transparency on IRs
Shinzo Abe urged Representatives to conduct the location decision process with “fairness and transparency.”
Japan.- Integrated resorts (IRs) are soon to arrive in Japan as legislation will soon be approved, and the government is looking to get the process completed as transparent as possible. That’s why the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has called for fairness and transparency on the decision making process for where to build casino resorts.
“It’s crucial to conduct screenings in a fair and unbiased manner, with transparency,” PM Abe told a committee of the House of Representatives in Tokyo.
Japan is debating the IR Implementation bill, which foresees the establishment of casino developments in three different locations. The parliament has just began debating the bill last month in order to get regulation and administration rules straight, as it esablishes the taxation regime and the number of licenses set to be issued.
However, the ruling coalition party (the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito) is still looking to get the bill’s details ready in order to pass it as soon as possible. Nonetheless, it wants to get proper complimentary legislation passed first, like the anti-gambling addiction bill that made it through the lower house last month and is currently in the upper house.
