Illegal high-end casino busted in Ontario
The Canadian police say illegal casino operations have flourished during the pandemic.
US.- Ontario police have made 32 arrests in an operation to shut down what was described as a “high-end illegal casino”.
The casino operation was taking place at a C$9m 53-room mansion in Markham, 30km outside of Toronto.
Officers seized various gaming artefacts from the scene, including a collection of gaming tables and electronic gaming machines. Other property seized included the mansion itself, C$1m in cash and 4,000 bottles of alcohol.
The arrests are part of a police effort known as Project End Game, which began last year. Since then, a new operation known as Project Double Down has been launched to further explore threads from the first project.
Canadian police said that illegal gambling operations have risen during the novel coronavirus pandemic, during which many licensed casinos were closed.
