Five major groups show interest in Greek casino licence

The Hellenic Gaming Commission will meet five major casino companies to discuss the development in Elliniko.

Greece.- As part of the process to develop a major casino project in Elliniko, the Hellenic Gaming Commission (HGC) is set to host a number of pre-tender consultations with possible investors. The regulatory body already revealed that there are at least five major companies interested in acquiring the licence to operate the venue.

The HGC will begin meeting interested parties to participate in the consultation over the next weeks. Among them are US companies Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE), Caesars Entertainment, Las Vegas Sands, Hard Rock Entertainment and China’s Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd.

The Greek regulatory body will first secure the maximum competition, credibility and price for the investment before moving on with the tender. The process involves the creation of an Integrated Resort Casino (IRC) to be built over more than 600,000 square meters which will include hotels, convention centres, themed attractions, a 15,000 square-meter casino and other attractions.

Many setbacks have caused the Hellinikon casino project to be delayed for years but the initiative may finally see the light at the end of the tunnel as the HGC will begin meeting candidates for the development.
