Casino revenue falls in Mississippi

Declines at Mississippi River casinos overshadow improvements in the Gulf Coast.

US.- State Revenue Department figures show that casino revenue in February fell once again in Mississippi. Despite the numbers not being as negative as they were in January, the improvements made in the Gulf Coast were outweighed by declines at Mississippi River casinos.

The numbers showed that gamblers lost US$170 million state-wide during last month’s operations, a one per cent decrease when compared to February 2017’s US$172 million. Receipts at the 12 coastal casinos increased to US$92 million, a two per cent increase from US$95 million registered last year.

On the other hand, the 16 river casinos posted winnings of US$73 million, five per cent down from US$77 million in February 2017. Revenue at river casinos has been decreasing exponentially since 2006 when the industry in the state experienced its peak. Moreover, state-wide revenue was down two percent in the 12-month period.
