Chinese visitors topped 28 million in 2019, more than 10% compared with 2018

Macau.- Although December 2019 registered a big decline in VIP revenue, visitor arrivals to Macau increased more than a 10% year-on-year with a total of 39.4 million visitors according to data published by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

The main increase was in same-day visitors, with a growth of 20%. As for where visitors arrived from, China accounted for around 28 million visitors in 2019, up more than 10% compared with 2018. Hong Kong visitors increased 16% and Taiwan only 0.2% year on year.

Most people (32 percent) arrived in Macau by land due to the opening of the Hong Kong Macau Zhuhai Bridge.

This numbers show that 2019 was a great year for Macau, despite what happened last December when the arrivals fell 13.6%,.

This included a 14.5% decline in visitors from China, 39.3% from Korea, 3.9% from Hong Kong and 14.3% from Taiwan.
