The Star manager fired after accusation of abuse of power
Minh Nguyen has been fired from The Star Entertainment, and the ILGA says she will no longer be able to work in the industry.
Australia.- The Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority of New South Wales (ILGA) has revealed that a manager from The Star Entertainment has been fired after borrowing more than AU$7,000 from other employees to pay for her own compulsive gambling habits. The regulator said Minh Nguyen will no longer be able to work in the industry.
She borrowed money from several of her employees in 2020 and 2021. An investigation found that when asking to borrow money, she would shorten an employee’s shift time, and offer to drive them home. She would say she needed the loan because of family problems. Staff were reportedly afraid to talk about the issue and felt that they could not refuse the manager’s request.
Minh Nguyen said she did not believe that she abused her position in the casino to oppress staff in any way and didn’t force them to give her money. Philip Crawford, ILGA’s chairman decided to revoke her licence.
