Thailand.- Six people have been arrested in Thailand for alleged links to an illegal online gambling website, Fun586, which reportedly laundered over THB3.2bn (US$95.95m). Police said that those arrested set up a fake agricultural trading company to hide online gambling operations.
Investigators found that bets were sent from gamblers to a mule account, then to the company, and finally to three website operators: two Chinese nationals and one Indonesian, who now face international arrest warrants. Over 25 other people, including five Malaysians and one Cambodian are suspected of being involved.
Meanwhile, a special Senate committee has reportedly been tasked to review the bill to legalise casino resorts in Thailand. According to the Bangkok Post, the first meeting will take place tomorrow (April 23).
The panel initially comprised 35 members following a proposal from senator Sorachat Wichaya Suwanphrom. It has been reduced to 34 members due to senator Premsak Piayura‘s resignation. The meeting will focus on appointing a chairperson, outlining the framework for the study and nominating a replacement for Piayura. The committee has 180 days to complete its work.
