Malaysia extends lockdown but RWG remains open
Resort World Genting has confirmed it will remain open despite the extension of lockdown measures in other areas of the country.
Malaysia.- Authorities have confirmed they are reinstating Conditional Movement Control Order, a measure that involves a total lockdown in three states of the country, for four weeks. It comes as Malaysia’s Ministry of Health reported 852 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday.
The measures will run from November 9 to December 6, and will affect the states of Kedah, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Johor and Terengganu.
Located at Genting Highlands, an upland area near the capital of Kuala Lumpur, Resorts World Genting (RWG), the only casino complex in the country, is not affected and remains open.
The company has published a statement on its website: “Resorts World Genting continues to adhere to the strict standard operating procedures issued by the government throughout the resort and we seek our guests’ cooperation to do the same. The safety and health of our guests and employees remain our utmost priority”.
The casino complex closed from March 18 to June 19 due to the pandemic.
