Police have carried out raids at two alleged illegal gambling hubs located in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia.- Authorities in Malaysia have conducted two raids that ended with the detention of 17 people who were allegedly involved in illegal gambling activities. The first raid led to the arrest of 11 local men and two local women and foreign woman. 

Police seized laptops, money and a modem during the raid that was carried out at a shophouse at Jalan Batu Tiga Lama in Klang. At the second raid, officers arrested three men aged between 21 and 35 years old and seized laptops, tablets, a mobile phone, money, a router, and a modem.

SAC Mohamad Noor Yusof told The Star: “We believe the premises have been operating for about two months and raking in about RM5,000 in profits monthly.”

Two weeks ago, police detained 10 alleged members of gambling syndicates at two venues near Klang. They are accused of conducting online gambling transactions worth nearly RM5m a month with more than 3,000 players. All suspects have been remanded in custody to assist police investigations under the General Gaming Act 1953.

Previously, officers in Kuching confirmed 22 people had been arrested during a series of raids at three online gambling call centres.
