Gambling whistleblowers eligible for rewards
One province has announced the trial of a cash rewards system for those who report infractions.
China.- The Public Security Department in the Jilin province has announced a trial on the use of rewards for people who blow the whistle on illegal cross-border gambling.
The department announced the trial of “Implementation Measures for Rewards for Reporting Cross-Border Gambling Crimes.”
Those who report signs of “international gambling crime clues” will be eligble for reward payments of up to RMB50K (US$7K).
The reported offences can be both land- based and online illegal operations. Those who provide tips that lead to enforcement actions and to arrests and convictions will be eligible for the largest payouts.
The announcement comes as the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) aims to enforce stricter controls on payments services used to send money to foreign gambling platforms.
China recently launched the creation of a digital platform for whistle blowers to report infractions.
