Cambodia: workers demand casinos pay wages
The Collective Union of Movement of Workers from Cambodia asks casino operators to better support workers.
Cambodia.- The Collective Union of Movement of Workers from Cambodia has asked all casino operators in the country to pay the last month’s wages and to maintain 50 per cent of salaries during the closure of casinos, local media have reported.
The Union said casino, bar and cinema workers are facing challenges and need help, according to the Khmer Times.
After ordering the closure of all casinos last Monday, the government announced it will cover 20 per cent of the minimum wage of suspended workers in the hospitality and F&B industries.
Tourism Ministry spokesman, Top Sopheak, told Khmer Times that around 28,000 employees are being impacted by Covid-19 suspensions.
