Australia: Sportsbet to offer weather markets
Operator offering odds on the hottest and closest cities as Coronavirus sees sports events across the world be cancelled.
Australia.- Betting agency Sportsbet has started offering bettings on the weather as global sports events continue to be cancelled due to Coronavirus.
The operator has opened markets for the hottest and coldest capital cities around Australia, using data from the Bureau of Meteorology to set at odds.
“Weather markets have always been popular with our punters, even more so now we’ve got no sport on. We need something to cheer home at the moment, so why not glue ourselves to the Bureau of Meteorology until sport returns,”, a Sportsbet spokesperson told local press.
The bookmaker had Canberra paying AU$1.60 for the lowest temperature, followed by Hobart at AU$2.20 and Sydney at AU$6.00.
Darwin appeared as the favourite for warmest capital at AU$1.50, followed by Darwin at AU$2.50.
