Arizona sports betting handle increases in January

Bettors in Arizona spent $864.2m in the first month of 2025.

US.- Arizona’s sports betting handle reached $864.2m in January, up 22.3 per cent year-on-year and 1.8 per cent ahead of December 2024. It was the second-highest handle to date, 3.7 per cent behind the state record of $897.6m set in November last year. Online spending amounted to $857.9m, while retail sportsbooks took $6.3m.

The Arizona Department of Gaming reported that adjusted gross event wagering receipts before free bet deductions were $83.6m, up 17.9 per cent year-on-year and 63.6 per cent ahead of December. Online gross receipts amounted to $83.5m and retail $105,099.

Some $304m was deducted in free bets and other promotions. As such, adjusted gross event wagering receipts totalled $53.2m, up 15.2 per cent compared to January 2024 and 106.2 per cent ahead of December 2024.

FanDuel led the market with $34.8m in pre-free bet deduction revenue from a $287.9m handle. DraftKings reported $26.5m from a $271.8m handle and BetMGM $9.8m from $100.4m. Arizona collected $5.3m in taxes, almost all from online sports betting, which is taxed at 10 per cent. Retail betting, taxed at 8 per cent, generated $8,408.
