Allwyn revenue climbs as Czech gambling giant advances with growth strategy

The operator of the UK National Lottery saw revenue rise by 12 per cent in 2024.

Czech Republic.- Allwyn has reported a 12 per cent rise in full-year revenue for 2024. Revenue reached €8.8bn, while adjusted EBITDA rose by 4 per cent to €1.54bn. For Q4, revenue was up by 10 per cent at €2.4bn and adjusted EBITDA by 12 per cent at €437m.

The update follows Allwyn’s first year at the helm of the UK National Lottery, which it formally took over under a ten-year licence in February 2024. The last 12 months also saw the Czech operator acquire a 51 per cent stake in Novibet in Greece and a 70 per cent stake in the online lottery supplier Instant Win Gaming (IWG).

The company said the acquisitions had a significant impact on metrics for the year. Allwyn also owns the Czech lottery operator Sazka, its original business, and has stakes in OPAP in Greece and Cyprus and in Austrian Lotteries. Excluding UK, North America, technology and content operations, revenue was up by 8 per cent to £4.6bn and adjusted EBITDA by 27% to £1.5bn.

The company is now building a presence in sports betting, having entered into a deal with the McLaren Formula One team.

Allwyn CEO Robert Chvatal said: “2024 was another year of record financial performance and strategic progress, as we continued to execute our growth strategies successfully. With respect to strategic bolt-on acquisitions, we were pleased to complete our planned investment in a 70% interest in Instant Win Gaming in September and our expansion efforts were further bolstered by our agreement in December to acquire a 51% stake in Logflex MT Holding Limited, the owner of the growing online sports betting and gaming group Novibet.

“Both transactions are in line with our strategy of making selective acquisitions in relevant products, technologies and content to support our future growth. During the year we also saw a small increase in our interest in OPAP, as a result of its share buyback programme. The new year has started well, and Allwyn is well positioned for 2025 and for the next chapters of its growth story.”

Last month, Allwyn UK started to roll out new National Lottery self-checkouts at Aldi supermarkets. The move follows the launch of a pilot National Lottery scratchcard dispenser at an Asda supermarket earlier in the month.
