Alabama introduces a sports betting bill
Two Alabama representatives filed a sports betting bill in order to legalise the segment in the state and take advantage of the ever growing market.
US.- After the Supreme Court of the US struck PASPA down, most states in the country began discussing sports betting. Alabama has joined in the debate just this week, after two representatives filed a proposal to legalise it in the state.
House Bill 315 was filed by representatives Mike Rogers and Mary Moore in the Alabama House. It would allow sports betting in Alabama, including both professional and collegiate sporting events.
The bill would create the Alabama Sports Wagering Commission, to be in charge of regulating the segment. It would monitor the seven authorised locations established around the state, as both on-site and mobile betting would be allowed. Operators would have to pay a US$100k licencing fee that would last for five years. Furthermore, they’d pay a 10% tax on all adjusted gross sports revenue.
The proposed legislation needs to race through the Legislature before June 18, when the Legislative Session ends. That way, Alabama sports betting has little over ten weeks to turn into Law.
