Wynn, Bally’s and Las Vegas Sands to compete for NYC licence
The three gaming giants are said to be talking to potential developers and seeking the support of local politicians to gain a licence in New York City.
US.- Wynn Resorts, Bally’s Corporation and Las Vegas Sands are reportedly competing for a casino licence in New York City, according to the New York Post.
The three gaming giants are said to be talking to potential developers and seeking the support of local politicians in anticipation of the state capital Albany putting out a request for proposals next month.
Lawmakers in Albany were originally planning to issue three gaming licences in 2023, but with a recession underway due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, they are said to be eager to advance with the casinos project this year.
With two licences likely to go to the Resorts World Aqueduct racino and the MGM Resorts-owned Empire City Casino, gaming properties that are already permitted to run slot machines in the jurisdiction, one licence will remain up for grabs.
Wynn and Bally’s have declined to comment, but Las Vegas Sands CEO and chair Robert Goldstein told The New York Post: “We are eager to bring our expertise and resources to New York – a move that could bring needed revenue, thousands of jobs and help rebuild the state from the devastating effects of COVID. And we don’t need any subsidies to do it.”
The company recently confirmed that it is selling two of its properties on the Las Vegas strip for $6.25bn: the Venetian Resort and Sands Expo and Convention Center.
