Macau issues Level 1 travel alert for UAE and Middle East countries
The alert follows 18 assistance requests from Macau residents stranded in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain.
The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has issued a Level 1 travel alert for several Middle East countries, citing the continued deterioration of the regional security situation. The alert applies to Bahrain, Jordan, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, with authorities urging Macau residents planning to visit these destinations to exercise increased caution.
At the same time, MGTO reiterated stronger warnings for higher-risk destinations, advising residents to avoid travel to Iran and Israel altogether. Those currently in these countries are urged to leave as soon as possible and remain highly vigilant.
The tourism authority also highlighted the broader impact of the ongoing Middle East tensions on global travel, noting that airports in the region and transport networks in Europe have been affected. Travellers are advised to closely monitor flight schedules and maintain contact with airlines due to potential disruptions.
Between March 1 and 23, MGTO received 18 requests for assistance related to the Middle East situation, with nearly 80 per cent involving Macau residents stranded in cities such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain. Additional inquiries were linked to refunds and cancellations for planned trips.
Authorities have encouraged residents in affected areas to follow updates from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and to contact Chinese embassies or emergency hotlines if needed.
