Texas insists on legalising DFS

Another bill to legalise the daily fantasy sports industry was introduced last week.

US.- State Senator Lois Kolkhorst introduced a bill that would legalise and regulate daily fantasy sports (DFS) in Texas. This is the most recent attempt to approve the industry in the state, as state lawmakers introduced three different bills since January.

S 1970 is set to secure basic protection for consumers, and it would emulate several laws enacted by states last year. According to the Texas Fantasy Sports Alliance, Kolkhorst said: “Texans love sports and their freedom, which is why I filed Senate Bill 1970, so that we can ensure fantasy sports are legal in Texas. I am a longtime advocate for personal freedoms and limited government.”

The Senator believes that protecting their liberties and rights is a must, and that includes their ability to play a game of skill that millions of Texans already enjoy. “Fantasy sports add to the experience of watching your favorite team, and I’m excited to work with my fellow lawmakers and the sports fans all across Texas to pass this legislation.”

Back in February, Texas’ Representative Richard Peña Raymond introduced another DFS bill to legalise the sector. Besides S 1970, state lawmakers are considering three official projects to legalise the sector, H 1457, H 1422 and H 1418. “If you don’t think fantasy football is a game of skill, then you haven’t played it. This is something that the government shouldn’t stick its nose into. A government shouldn’t take away our right to play fantasy football,” had said Peña Raymond.
