Casinos in Shreveport will be smoke-free from August 1, despite opposition from operators.

US.- Casinos in Shreveport, Louisiana will become smoke-free venues as of August 1, the city council has decided.

The Smoke-Free Air Act was due to come into effect in August last year, but it was postponed until this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The legislation bans smoking in casinos, bars and all other gaming facilities. Councillor James Flurry had proposed an amendment to allow smoking inside casinos, however, after a heated debate, the final vote went against it.

Flurry said the ban would result in job losses as customers would cross the river and go to Bossier City to enjoy gambling while smoking.

Shreveport City has just two casinos – El Dorado and Sam’s Town.
