Opponents of North Bay casino rise
A group of people against the construction of a casino in North Bay will try to convince the council to rethink its position tomorrow.
Canada.- A new round of council presentations from members of No Casino North Bay will begin tomorrow in Canada. The group of people against the construction of a casino in North Bay, Ontario are trying to convince city officials to reconsider their position.
Kay Heuer, member of the organisation, said: “Our position is that is not over until it’s over.” According to Nugget.ca, she commented that whilst in 2012 the previous council was debated in negotiations, and subject to confirmation, acceptance from the operator, this time the officials haven’t shown any signs that they’re researching the proposal. Heuer claimed that the council doesn’t have any arguments that can convince them that a new casino is beneficial for the community. “Our research is that there is not [economic benefits],” she added, and confirmed that tomorrow’s meeting is set to feature presentations focusing on business and counseling perspectives.
Furthermore, a resident of the area asked the council to consider an economic impact study and the public health board is also expecting some of the revenue to go directly to a responsible gambling program. Heuer proposed a referendum to reveal what the citizens really want. Gateway Casinos & Entertainment was presented in December 2016 as the new provider for North and Southwest Gaming Bundles. “In Northern and Southwestern Ontario, Gateway will work with host communities to bring our unique brands and experiences to customers. On behalf of the 4,000 Gateway employees, we look forward to welcoming OLG colleagues to our team,” said Gateway CEO, Tony Santo.
