Norway’s Lottery Authority issues bingo draft proposal

The gambling regulator issued a draft proposal to change the current bingo regulations.

Norway.- Norwegian Gaming Authority (Lotteri- og Stiftelsestilsynet) revealed yesterday more details regarding a new proposal that seeks more changes in the current bingo regulations. Among the new changes, operators of bingo floors would see more revenue.

The Lottery Authority said that on average, every organization with bingo floors will receive about US$615k more per year, as the portion of the surplus from Belago will increase from 25 to 30 per cent. The entity said that there will be more changes in the future regarding computer bingo games and that it will translate into a boost for the traditional bingo game, resulting in a more modern and attractive market than it currently is, as companies would see extra revenue.

The regulator also said that bingo must be played responsibly. “Our mission is to protect people from gaming problems. This means your organisation must be confident that money they receive from games has a responsible framework,” said the authority.

This week it was also reported that the gambling market in Norway is expected to suffer more modifications after the supreme legislature adopted measures to strengthen gambling rules. The measures adopted on Monday grant the Norwegian Gaming Authority more power to investigate companies that promote unauthorised gambling products and impose penalties on companies that violate the rules. However, gaming companies believe that these regulations are only symbolic, as – for Norwegian customers – the difference is minimal.
