US.- The New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) has named Cindy Rubi Estrada to the New York Gaming Facility Location Board, which is overseeing the commercial casino siting process. Estrada joins Vicki Been, Terryl Brown, Marion Phillips, III and Greg Reimers on the board.

Estrada currently serves as the executive director at the New York City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a position created in 2015. She had previously held the position of vice president. She was born in East Harlem, raised in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, and is a longtime resident of The Bronx.

She started in business in 1972 as the owner of a women’s designer boutique, which she followed by founding Woop’s Manufacturing in 1979 where she produced children’s sweaters for the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. She worked in the travel business with Nick Lugo Travel as vice president, corporate travel services, later as partner and finally as a consultant. She has been active with Somos El Futuro since 1987.

Commission chair Brian O’Dwyer said: “I thank Cindy Estrada for lending her expertise and taking on this true public service. The Gaming Facility Location Board’s important work has far-reaching implications for the entire State, and I am grateful for their service.”

The board is responsible for reviewing and evaluating casino applications and recommending up to three facilities for licensure. A Community Advisory Committee (CAC) has advanced Hard Rock International and New York Mets Owner Steve Cohen’s project for a hotel casino in Queens. Other contenders still in the race are Empire City Casino, Resorts World in Queens and Bally’s.
