New Jersey sportsbooks take $143.7m in Super Bowl bets
Preliminary data from New Jersey sportsbooks suggest a 22.4 per cent increase over 2021’s handle.
US.- The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has reported that the state’s sportsbooks took over $140m in wagers on Super Bowl LVI. Sports betting operations tied to Atlantic City Casinos and New Jersey racetracks reported preliminary wagering statistics suggesting $143.7m was wagered on Sunday’s (February 13) match. That’s a 22.4 per cent increase over 2021’s handle of $117.4m.
Sportsbooks paid out $135.9m in this year’s game compared to $106.1m in 2021, when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeat the Kansas City Chiefs. New Jersey sportsbooks recorded a win of $7.8m, down from last year’s $11.3m.
GeoComply has reported that it recorded 80.1m betting transactions over the Super Bowl weekend in the US, an increase of 226 per cent compared to 2021.
Super Bowl bets hit record $179.8m in Nevada
Players in Nevada wagered a record $179.8m on this year’s Super Bowl LVI, beating the previous record from 2018. The amount spent at the state’s 179 licensed sportsbooks on Sunday’s match surpassed the previous record of $158.9m by 13.2 per cent.
According to the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB), operators generated $15.4m in revenue, some way behind the record $19.7m set in 2014. The 2022 win total is the third highest on record since the NGCB started tracking wagers in 1990, surpassed only by 2014 and 2020.
