NJ Senator introduces resolution to protect iGaming

A state Senator introduced a resolution that seeks the protection of internet gaming in New Jersey.

US.- New Jersey State Senator Jim Whelan introduced a resolution that seeks the protection of online gaming in the state by urging the US Congress to be opposed to any action that would prohibit states to conduct internet gambling.

Whelan has been a supporter of the gambling industry for a quite long time: he endorsed a bill that was passed last month that would allow the purchase of lottery tickets through internet services. Furthermore, he also supported the Assembly resolution AJR 137 introduced in the state by Vincent Mazzeo, which asks the state legislature for protection against federal interference.

The state Senator’s proposal was first introduced to the Senate State Government, Wagering, Tourism and Historic Preservation Committee, and it counts with at least the support from six different co-sponsors. Whelan believes that there will be some kind of progression around the measure soon. Last month, research firm Eilers & Krejcik Gaming released a report where they establish that the online gaming industry in New Jersey will grow 17 percent in 2017. Last year, online casinos experienced a 32 percent growth over 2015.

New Jersey currently offers 20 different gaming websites. Golden Nugget holds the biggest platform in the state under its partnership with Betfair. Whilst the industry was legalised back in 2013, year after year New jersey has been experiencing good results in its online gambling sector. Back in December, the New Jersey Assembly Tourism, Gaming and Arts Committee passed a new online gaming bill to allow the delivery of the service in two racetracks, Monmouth Park and Meadowlands. The Assembly also proposed a new casino license process to limit the extension of the State’s permission of operation.
