Michigan regulator issues cease-and-desist orders to illegal offshore operators

The MGCB has sent letters to 45 offshore gambling operators over the past four months.

US.- The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has announced that it has issued cease-and-desist orders to 45 offshore gambling operators over the past four months. The regulator stated that the platforms have been unlawfully offering online casino games and sports wagering to residents in the state.

MGCB warned that operators who fail to comply with a cease-and-desist directive can face additional civil and criminal enforcement measures.

MGCB executive director Henry Williams said: “The scope of this action sends a clear message: Michigan will not tolerate illegal operators targeting our residents or undermining the lawful businesses that have invested in complying with state law. Our investigators work with unwavering focus to identify, document, and act against every unlicensed site that puts Michigan players at risk. This is an ongoing effort, and we will continue to take action against illegal gambling operators.”

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel recently filed a lawsuit against Kalshi, alleging that the prediction market company has violated the state’s Lawful Sports Betting Act (LSBA). The lawsuit seeks an order of abatement and injunctive relief to halt what the Attorney General says is the unlawful offering of online sports wagers to Michigan residents.
