Chamber of Commerce backs casino bill in Massachusetts
South Shore Chamber of Commerce head concerned over lack of progress on legislation that would permit the construction of a casino in Wareham.
US.- Proposals for a casino and racetrack in Wareham, Massachusetts, have been approved by the South Shore Chamber of Commerce but there remains a long way to go before a Bill is signed into law.
The Bill, filed by Rep. Susan Williams-Gifford, would permit the construction of a casino and racetrack in Wareham, but lawmakers are still reviewing the legislation and to date have repeatedly delayed its progress.
The head of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce has raised concerns over the situation.
“We find it troubling that Southeastern Massachusetts is almost effectively blocked under current law from even considering a casino gaming option,” South Shore Chamber President and CEO Peter Forman wrote to Rep. Susan Williams-Gifford.
“Your legislation will enable an open and competitive process that will lead to the best possible solution for the region, one that compliments the tourism industry and the region’s economic strength.”
Rep Gifford filed the bill back in October but it continues to sit in the Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies. The group will conduct a report on the new Massachusetts casino and racetrack but has delayed the process twice already.
The new venue would include a casino, racetrack, hotel, restaurants and a baseball field.
