Maryland sports betting handle increases in August

The betting handle increased 19.2 per cent from July.

US.- Maryland’s sports betting handle totalled $434.2m in August. That’s a rise of 19.2 per cent from July. Of the total, $7.6m came from retail and $426.6m from online bets.

According to figures released by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (MLGCA), winnings totalled $381.7m and sportsbook operators held 12.1 per cent of the handle. The combined taxable win was $45.5m.

Sports wagering generated $9m in contributions to the state. The combined retail and mobile contribution to the Blueprint Fund was $6.8m, while $2.2m in mobile proceeds went to the General Fund.

Retail sports wagering operators contribute 15 per cent of their taxable proceeds to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, which supports public education programmes. Mobile sports wagering operators contribute 15 per cent of their taxable proceeds to the Blueprint Fund and 5 per cent to the state’s General Fund.

In August, Maryland’s six casinos generated a combined $170.2m in revenue from slot machines and table games, down 2.1 per cent year-over-year and up 2.7 per cent from July 2025.
