Maryland casinos experience good results
Casinos in the Old Line State collected US$138 million last month, a 34 percent increase year-on-year.
US.- Maryland Lottery and Gaming released a statement on Monday where it was detailed that state casinos raked in US$138 million in July, a growth of 34 percent when compared to the number registered a year before, US$103 million.
The biggest difference, as well as the other months in 2017, is that this year MGM National Harbor’s numbers are included. The casino that opened in December 2016 has been boosting the activity in the state ever since it started offering services. If the MGM casino results are taken off the equation, casino revenue fell approximately US$15.8 million, but if the state includes the numbers, the industry grew with the US$50.7 million generated by the facility.
Maryland Live Casino, the former top scorer, generated US$46.8 million in July, whilst Horseshoe Casino Baltimore collected US$23 million. Moreover, Hollywood Casino Perryville totaled US$6.6 million, Casino at Ocean Downs US$6.4 million and Rocky Gap Casino Resort US$5 million.
Back in June, a report by onlinepoker.net revealed that the casinos closest to the MGM facility have been the most affected since its opening, with the Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore reporting a 9.4 percent drop in its revenue and the Maryland Live in Anne Arundel County with an even bigger dip of 16.6 percent since the US$1.4 billion complex opened in December. Furthermore, it was announced that the MGM Resorts opening in December 2016 has seen a revenue rise of 37.8 percent ever since. While having such great results, the facility has cannibalised the casino market in Maryland, causing a decline in the other five casinos in the State, whose revenue have dropped 11.8 percent instead.
