Hartford could offer gambling options
A new proposal establishes that the XL Center could be sold to tribes, and therefore they would add gambling options in Hartford, Connecticut.
US.- The XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut, could offer gambling options under a new proposal discussed in the state. While it is just a concept, Governor Ned Lamont could support the initiative that would happen if the two tribes drop their plans for an East Windsor casino and focus on Hartford.
A source close to the negotiations said the state has discussed the plan to sell the XL Center in Hartford. Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan, the two recognised Indian tribes in the state, could buy it. They would renovate the facility and add gambling options to it, The Courant reported.
Ryan Drajewicz, chief of staff of Lamont, said on Sunday that the governor wants to see a positive solution. He has been trying to stop the tribes from continuing with the proposed US$300 million casinos in East Windsor. The tribes have already invested over US$20 million to compete with the MGM Springfield casino located over the state line.
“His primary objective is to do what’s best for the state of Connecticut, not the narrow interests that so often dominate this issue at the expense of the citizens of this state,” Drajewicz said.
If the tribes give up the East Windsor plans, they would receive permission to run sports betting across the state. They would also operate a casino in Bridgeport and run online gambling operations.
