Hard Rock’s New York casino project receives Advisory Committee approval
The proposal joins three others that will advance to contend for a casino licence in the state.
US.- Hard Rock International and New York Mets owner Steve Cohen’s proposal for a hotel casino in Queens has been unanimously approved by the respective Community Advisory Committee (CAC). The proposal joins three others, Empire City Casino, Resorts World in Queens, and Bally’s in advancing in the process to award casino licences in the state.
The $8bn Metropolitan Park casino resort would be located on 50 acres of parking space around the Mets’ Citi Field ballpark in Queens. It would include new athletic fields, a renovated transit station, 20 acres of public park space and a food hall.
The New York State Gaming Commission received eight applications for up to three casino licences in the state. In Manhattan, the Freedom Plaza project, Caesars Palace in Times Square and The Avernir in Hudson Yards were all rejected by local advisory committees. The Coney Island casino bid by Thor Equities, was also rejected by its assigned committee, leaving four contenders: Metropolitan Park Empire City Casino, Resorts World and Bally’s to compete for up to three available licences.
A decision by the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) is expected in December.
