New York Resorts World and Empire City Casino proposal win advisory committee approvals
The two casino proposals will advance after three Manhattan proposals were rejected.
US.- Empire City Casino and Resorts World in Queens have received approval from the respective local advisory committees for their New York casino bids. The approvals came after three proposals for casinos in Manhattan were rejected. Both proposals were approved unanimously by the five-member committees.
MGM Yonkers, a subsidiary of MGM Resorts International, proposes to expand the existing Empire City Casino site. That would include the renovation and expansion of existing gaming areas and the addition of a new high-limit lounge and BetMGM Sportsbook.
Meanwhile, Genting New York proposes to convert its existing Resorts World New York City (RWNYC) in Queens into a full integrated resort. The 5.6 million-square-foot development would feature a 500,000-square-foot gaming floor with 6,000 slot machines and 800 table games, 2,000 hotel rooms, a 7,000-seat performance venue, over 30 food and beverage outlets and 10 acres of public greenspace.
The New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) received eight applications for up to three casino licences in the state. In Manhattan, the Freedom Plaza project, Caesars Palace in Times Square and The Avernir in Hudson Yards were all rejected by local advisory committees this month. Five contenders based outside Manhattan remain in the race, including the two latest approvals. The State’s Gaming Facility Location Board will select the winning projects in December, followed by a decision from the Gaming Commission.
